January 18 & 19, 2020

Leader Note: Hey Group leaders here are just a few reminders as we start this Winter small group season. When you are in the discussion part of your time together remember that your goal isn’t to get through every question but to have a good discussion where everyone participates. Your number one job as a small group leader is making space for the Holy Spirit to work. Your role is so crucial at Pathway. I’m praying for you! -Dan

Let’s Break the Ice: What is the best or worst Job you have every had? Or what is your dreamiest dream job?

  • Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything you heard for the first time or that caught your attention, challenged you or confused you?

What have you been learning in your personal study and God time?

  • What words would you choose to describe your current work?

Rewarding, Difficult, Fun, Challenging, Fruitful, Exhausting, Involved, Non-stop, Enjoyable, Life-sucking, Life-giving, Worthwhile, Monotonous, Meaningful

  • Read Genesis 3:1-19 together.  All people are broken because of The Fall and mankind’s choice of sin. We all can see and feel this in our own lives and in the lives of the people who we live, learn, work and play with.

In what ways do you think work would be different for us if mankind had never chosen sin?

In what ways do you experience the effects of The Fall in your work?

[This could be in your desire to work too much, or desire to not work at all. This could be in the fact that our work often seems so temporary; many times, as soon as our work is finished it’s already in a state of decline.]

  • The work God is doing in each of us towards full life in Christ (John 10:10) doesn’t just happen overnight. In what ways is God still doing a redeeming work in you?

What are the biggest challenges in your line of work as a result of our brokenness?

In what areas do you see the need for God to redeem your work the most?

  • Our work really encompasses this huge collection of the jobs, tasks and commitments that we have either chosen or that have become our responsibility. Take a moment to take an inventory of your list. [For example my list includes; follower of Jesus, husband, dad, small group pastor, Venue pastor, small group leader, friend, son, brother, I’m involved in various teams and groups at our church, etc.. Each of these roles for me has it’s own collection of responsibilities and work that go along with it.)

Just because a role has value doesn’t mean it isn’t challenging or that we will instinctively love doing the work involved in it.

What things on your list are the most challenging to see as enjoyable, good or redeemable?

  • Read Ephesians 2:10 and Colossians 2:6-7 together. When you reflect on your list and on the 2 passages of scripture we just read. How do you see God calling you to lean into your work, both the enjoyable and tiresome parts? How can you start this week?

  • How can we pray for each other as a group this week?
