Day 10: Trusting God’s Ways

READ

REFLECT

Frank Sinatra is well-known for his hit, “I Did It My Way,” a song where he looks back at his life and the significant decisions he made to bring him to his present. As a part of the song reveals, it is a song of independence and self-resiliency:

            Regrets, I’ve had a few

But then again too few to mention

I did what I had to do

I saw it through without exemption

            I planned each charted course

Each careful step along the byway

            And more, much, much more

I did it, I did it my way

In 1 Samuel 24-27, David was certainly tempted to do things “his way”. He could have used his newfound army to kill Saul at the first chance he got. However, he refused to do so—twice. He knew God would take care of Saul in His own way, and David trusted God to handle it. David did not take matters into his own hands.

Many times, we are tempted to take control of our life by doing things our way. We don’t have patience in God’s timing or trust His plan. Yet, God has proven Himself to be worthy of our trust and patience. He is more than able to accomplish what we cannot do and work all circumstances out for our good and His glory. Trust Him!

RESPOND

Spend time in prayer, following the Upward, Inward, Outward, Upward format.

Upward: Who God is; What God has done, is doing, will do

Inward: Who you are; How you live

Outward: Intercession for others

Today’s Prayer:

Father, I confess I am tempted to take control. And I often give in to that temptation. Show me that my wisdom and ability are no match for yours. Help me to stop living a “I Did It My Way” life. I want to give you control so that my life glorifies you and I don’t mess up what you have planned for me. Thank you for lovingly guiding me and being patient with me as I learn what it means to give up control.
