Day 7: Being Molded in Christ

REFLECT
Comparing ourselves to others is similar to looking at a funhouse mirror or an app filter that distorts our faces or bodies. All they do is reflect back to us a distorted image of who we are. They are not accurate. Paul David Tripp writes, “I like the metaphor in Scripture of the Word of God being this perfect mirror that I look into and see myself as I actually am. What we tend to look into is carnival mirrors. They show me me, but they show me me with distortion, like the carnival mirror at the fair. I see myself, but there is distortion.”[1]
The world constantly tries to mold us into its image. In doing so, it tempts us with a distorted image of who we really are. However, God’s plan for our lives involves being molded into His image. Our identity in Christ transforms our hearts, our thinking, our perspectives, our attitudes and our actions from the world’s way to God’s way of living.
RESPOND
Spend time in prayer, following the Upward, Inward, Outward, Upward format.
Upward: Who God is; What God has done, is doing, will do
Inward: Who you are; How you live
Outward: Intercession for others; unified prayer focus with Pathway
TODAY’S PRAYER: Father, we confess it is difficult to stand against the pressures and temptations of the world. But we also confess you are greater than the world and have given us the power to overcome. Help us to overcome the identity the world tries to force upon us and, instead, choose to walk in the new identity you have given us. Help us to be transformed and renewed in our minds so that we can discern your will.
