Day 3: God’s Generosity Reveals His Faithfulness
READ
REFLECT
Ariana Huffington, founder of the Huffington Post, was rejected by 36 publishers. Bill Gates’ first company crumbled. George Steinbrenner bankrupted a sports team. Walt Disney was told he lacked creativity. Steve Jobs was booted from his own company. Milton Hersey started three candy companies before Hershey. All of these individuals failed but didn’t allow their failures to define their futures.
The Israelites had failed in their relationship with God. They were unfaithful to their covenant with Him. Yet, God did not reject them. Rather than discarding them, God leaned into them. When they couldn’t have recovered themselves, God showed up with His generous faithfulness. If generosity is defined as being “marked by abundance” then God has abundant faithfulness. His faithfulness is more abundant than our failures.
Because God is abundantly faithful, we can take refuge in His love, acceptance, and kindness when we fail and when our enemies oppose us. The good news is that we do not have to worry about whether or not God will respond based on our merit. He responds to us when we recognize we can’t help ourselves and that we need His generosity!
RESPOND
Spend time in prayer, following the Upward, Inward, Outward, Upward format.
Upward: Who God is; What God has done, is doing, will do
Inward: Who you are; How you live
Outward: Intercession for others
Today’s Prayer:
“God, even though I have sinned and failed countless times, you have been faithful. Thank you for revealing your generosity to me through your constant faithfulness. You don’t love me or even use me based on how good I am. Regardless, I could never match up to your level of faithfulness. However, your abundant faithfulness motivates me to strive for increased faithfulness to you. Help us as a church to be faithful in all you’ve called us to do. Help me be a faithful participant at Pathway and generously give of myself.”
