Day 2: God’s Generosity Gives us Life
READ
REFLECT
What was your very first thought as a baby? While you definitely had one, you probably don’t remember what you thought first! In fact, most of us don’t remember the first several years of our lives even though we were alive and conscious. Though we were alive and conscious, we were not aware we were the creation of a generous and loving God who was responsible for giving us life. It wasn’t until later we began to sufficiently understand the complexities of our bodies, hearts, and minds so that we began to ponder God’s creation of us.
God didn’t haphazardly create us. He created us intentionally with a purpose in mind. His generosity in this way breathed life into us and continues to breathe life into us even while we sleep. Further, He continues to be generous by giving us good gifts that are essential for living out His will and enjoying the life He generously gives us.
Further still, when we give our lives to Him, He breathes spiritual life into us through the Holy Spirit and His Word. In a sense, every day we can come alive when we surrender to the Holy Spirit as we read and obey God’s Word.
Indeed, God’s generosity gives us life and good gifts!
RESPOND
Spend time in prayer, following the Upward, Inward, Outward, Upward format.
Upward: Who God is; What God has done, is doing, will do
Inward: Who you are; How you live
Outward: Intercession for others
Today’s Prayer:
“God, thank you for breathing life into me. While I often take my life for granted, I recognize now you are my Life Giver and that you have been generous in giving me life. You also are generous in how you’ve continued to give me a full life even though it may not seem that way at times. Because I am your child, you breathe life into me every day through your Word of Truth. Help me to be a Life-Giving person who breathes life into those I engage with today! Guide our church in being a Life-Giving church!”
