REFLECT
What is the first word you think of when you hear the following names?
- Michael Jordan
- Reggie Miller
- Steve Jobs
- Stevie Wonder
Chances are, it is pretty easy to describe what each person is known for in one word. Perhaps you wanted to use more words, but one word was sufficient …
What are you known for? Your career? Your wealth? Your fashion sense? Your athletic skill? Your good looks? Your intelligence? When people hear of your name, what is the first thing that comes to their minds?
What about your faith? Do people look to you as someone who has radical faith in God? Do people admire your trust in God?
The Roman believers were known for their great faith. Paul says that their faith was known all over the world. His prayer in Romans 1:8 was one of thanksgiving to God for their faith. What is the kind of faith that is known worldwide? It is faith that takes God at His Word and obeys Him no matter the cost. It is a faith that enjoys walking with Him and delighting in Him. The world desperately needs to see this kind of faith in God. Who is going to show it to them?
RESPOND
Spend time in prayer, following the Upward, Inward, Outward, Upward format.
Upward: Who God is; What God has done, is doing, will do
Inward: Who you are; How you live
Outward: Intercession for others; unified prayer focus with Pathway
TODAY’S PRAYER: Jesus, we ask of you to increase our faith in you. Help us to trust you to such a degree that we do not question your wisdom or fear your will. Guide us in knowing you more so that we can trust your heart even when we don’t understand what you are doing around us. We desire to be a church that is known for our faith in you—not for our glory but for the purpose of drawing people to You.
