21 Days of Prayer: Day 16 (Promise of Forgiveness)

Day 16

Then he adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more. And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary”. – Hebrews 10:17-18

Promise of Forgiveness

Imagine standing before God, your whole life on display for judgment. Before you fall into the rumination of regret, you hear Him say, “I remember your sins no more.” This is not just a promise of absolution but an invitation to let go of what no longer defines us.

This passage in Hebrews reminds us that, through Christ, we are granted the gift of forgiveness. What are we to do with this supply of forgiveness? What kind of life embodies this promise?

As people of the 21st century, we are constantly bombarded with surveys, posts, and questions that make us question our identity and doubt our value. Even at 21 years old, I have felt the weight of the world that wants to define me by my past shames and my future anxieties. For those of us in the faith, it can feel redundant to repent or hear the words “Jesus died for our forgiveness”. Yet, this act of grace shouldn’t allow us to live without change. A life that walks in the gift of forgiveness allows us to release the shame that holds us back and allows us to grow into the people He created us to be. It gives us the freedom to embrace our identity in Him and forgive others and ourselves.

It’s important to remember that this journey isn’t about merely reversing our beliefs but about evolving toward a deeper understanding of God’s goodness. As we draw closer to Him through repentance, we discover that the changes He asks of us resonate with our own desires for a better and fuller life.

Contemplation: Spend a few moments in silence, reflecting on any burdens you carry. Picture laying them at the feet of Christ, allowing His forgiveness to wash over you. What changes is He inviting you to embrace as you move forward in faith?

“Beyond all doubt, His idea of ‘goodness’ differs from ours; but you need have no fear that, as you approach it, you will be asked simply to reverse your moral standards. When the relevant difference between the Divine ethics and your own appears to you, you will not, in fact, be in any doubt that the change demanded of you is in the direction you already call ‘better’.”.– C.S. Lewis,The Problem of Pain

Prayer:

Dear Father, thank You for Your gift of forgiveness. Help me release the guilt and shame of my past and see myself through Your eyes. Grant me the strength to embrace Your mercy and to grow in Your love. May I also extend this forgiveness to myself and others. Amen.

Pray For Our Church: Take some time to pray for Pathway today—the people who make up our church, the staff, the ministries, etc. Ask God to work in and through us.

Pray For Our City: Pray for the people of our community and ask God to be at work in our hometown.

Pray For Our Nation: Pray for our nation—its people and its leaders. Boldly and specifically make your requests, then submit those desires to God’s will. Express your trust in Him.

Reflect:

  • How have you seen God’s faithfulness and his promises lived out today?
  • Write 2-3 points of gratitude and thank Jesus for these things.
  • Spend time praising God for who he is, what he has done, where he is at work, and what he has promised.
