21 Days of Prayer: Day 1 (God Is Creator)

Monday, October 14

Day 1

For this is what the Lord says—he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited—he says: ‘I am the Lord, and there is no other.’ – Isaiah 45:18

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. – Psalm 19:1

For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. – Colossians 1:16-17

God is Creator

Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” How many times have we read that verse or heard it read, but glanced over it without fully appreciating the depth of it? God is not only the creator of all things, but the creator of all things out of nothing. Everything is His idea!

I am a nurse and I am constantly in awe of God’s creation of the human body and how intricately he created us in His image. Thank you, God, for the creation of our amazing bodies! We look outside and see the changing colors of the leaves and think how beautiful it is. It isn’t only beautiful, but it all has a purpose. The food we eat, the animals that roam, the rain that feeds the food we eat, trees for shade and wood for building. The list goes on! We rely on God’s creation to sustain us, but are we fully relying on God? Each new day starts out with a sunrise and ends with a sunset. No matter what the day holds, it starts and ends beautifully. Thank you, God! Our God is so mighty and powerful to create everything in this world with so much order and perfection.

Go take a listen to the song, “So Will I” by Benjamin William Hastings and Hillsong United. I love the line, “I can see your heart in everything you’ve made.” Even the earth and stars cry out in worship to our God! One other great song to praise Him is, “How can you not?” by Leanna Crawford. There is evidence of God all around us!

Let us look up and look out. See the beauty around us and be in awe of the One who created it. Let us be continually thankful for every part of God’s creation.

Prayer:

Father God, it is so easy to find ourselves tied up in the worries and problems of this world. Help us turn our focus back to you, the creator of this world. Help us to be reminded of the goodness of your creation and the purpose you had intended it for. We live in a fallen world, but your creation is still so good. Open our eyes and return our minds to you, God. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Pray For Our Church: Take some time to pray for Pathway today—the people who make up our church, the staff, the ministries, etc. Ask God to work in and through us.

Pray For Our City: Pray for the people of our community and ask God to be at work in our hometown.

Pray For Our Nation: Pray for our nation—its people and its leaders. Boldly and specifically make your requests, then submit those desires to God’s will. Express your trust in Him.

Reflect:

  • How have you seen God’s faithfulness and his promises lived out today?
  • Write 2-3 points of gratitude and thank Jesus for these things.
  • Spend time praising God for who he is, what he has done, where he is at work, and what he has promised.
