Day 19: Team-Based Generosity
READ
REFLECT
We hear this phrase over and over again. We hear it said by athletes. We hear it said by CEOs. We hear it said at work. The phrase is, “We couldn’t have done this unless we worked as a team.”
The Bible is full of team approaches in accomplishing great feats. One of these accounts is found in Exodus 36 where all of God’s people equally sacrificed and gave gifts toward the building of the tabernacle. The tabernacle could not have been built otherwise. Because they did not yet have enough resources to pull from, they took a “love offering” for the tabernacle. As a result of the people’s generosity, they were able to accomplish something they couldn’t have done by themselves.
The impact of a group of people sacrificing equally to accomplish the same goal can be a powerful force. The sum is truly greater than its parts. There are occasions when there is such a great task that everyone is needed to make it happen. Without everyone’s participation, the task will not be accomplished.
RESPOND
Spend time in prayer, following the Upward, Inward, Outward, Upward format.
Upward: Who God is; What God has done, is doing, will do
Inward: Who you are; How you live
Outward: Intercession for others
Today’s Prayer:
“Father, thank you for not isolating me from others. Show me how much I need them to accomplish your will. I cannot accomplish ‘You-sized’ tasks by myself. I need others. Show me how I can be a team-player in this sense and do my part to contribute. Help us as a church family to be ‘all-in’ in making equal sacrifices to accomplish your purposes!”
Upward: Thanksgiving and Worship
