DAY 19: GOD’S PRESENCE IS OUR ANCHOR
READ
Ecclesiastes 3:1
REFLECT
Solomon describes the seasons of life as cycles over which God is sovereign. As humans, we experience different times and seasons in our lives, such as joy, sorrow, birth, death, planting, and harvesting. This is how God has set up the world. The good news is our seasons are not happenstances. There is a divine purpose and reason for every event, even if we don’t understand.
A ship without an anchor is tossed to and fro during a storm. After the storm is over, the ship is often so off course the ship’s crew can spend an enormous amount of time trying to find their way again. Thankfully, as followers of Jesus, we are not like a ship without an anchor. We do not have to experience life as though there is no coming back from the storms of life. As our anchor, God cements us in place and never lets us get too off course if we trust Him. The events that happen to us are not random events without reason. God’s certain presence anchors us in all seasons of life.
RESPOND
Spend time in prayer, following the Upward, Inward, Outward, Upward format.
Upward: Who God is; What God has done, is doing, will do
Inward: Who you are; How you live
Outward: Intercession for others
Today’s Prayer:
God, I admit I often feel scared and hopeless during hard times. Help me run to you and discover you are my anchor. Thank you that I can have peace in all seasons of my life when I place my trust in your sovereign hand. You have allowed things to happen for a reason, and ultimately, you are making good out of bad. Help me trust you!
Upward: Thanksgiving and Worship
