DAY 11: A PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
READ
Psalm 18
REFLECT
We often earnestly pray for God to deliver us from a difficult circumstance, but when He does we forget to thank Him. We tend to move on. We don’t take time to reflect on God’s goodness and give Him thanks for what He has done. Psalm 18 is David’s song of thanks to God for delivering him from the hands of Saul. David took the time to choose specific words and write them down so He and others could remember to praise God.
It can be very beneficial for us to take time to reflect on what God has done in our lives. We may want to write our thanks out, tell a friend how grateful we are, or simply tell God in our prayers. However we give thanks to God, we just have to remember to give thanks. As David says, “He is worthy of praise!”
RESPOND
Spend time in prayer, following the Upward, Inward, Outward, Upward format.
Upward: Who God is; What God has done, is doing, will do
Inward: Who you are; How you live
Outward: Intercession for others
Today’s Prayer:
Father, forgive me for moving on without giving you thanks. You have been so good to me. You delivered me from my troubles. I want to thank you for answering my prayer. Thank you for being so kind and loving to me, even if I didn’t deserve it. Help me to learn from your faithfulness and goodness. Teach me to trust you in the midst of my wilderness.
Upward: Thanksgiving and Worship
