THRIVE THOUGHT
God's Kingdom, God's Treasure
I’ve always appreciated the word “kingdom.” Having lived in Missouri most of my adult life, I consider myself part of Kansas City’s football fan base lovingly referred to as “Chief’s Kingdom”. Most people are familiar with USA’s ally over the pond, the “United Kingdom”. And certainly, the Bible frequently refers to “God’s Kingdom.”
There are several instances in God’s word where Jesus connects his kingdom with his treasure. Here is just one to consider:
“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Luke 12:32-34 (NIV)
God finds pleasure in giving us the kingdom. Are our hearts with God’s kingdom? What about our treasure? Nothing in this world compares to the kingdom of God. Jesus says treasure in heaven—which will never be stolen or destroyed—should be our priority and our hearts will follow.
