DAY 12: REPENTANCE-FILLED GENEROSITY

REFLECT
Do you know someone who never keeps a promise? They may be gifted in making promises but they are not gifted in keeping them. There are plenty of people who may say they want to be or will be generous, but generosity is done with our hands and mouths, not our mouths only.

A true change of heart regarding our generosity is demonstrated by what we do and not what we say. Zacchaeus is a good example of this. When he decided to follow Jesus, He didn’t just express regret and sorrow over what he had done to people. He demonstrated his heart had transitioned from greed to generosity by selling half of his possessions to the poor and returning four times the amount he had taken.

In the same way, we demonstrate our generosity by our actions. Where do you see yourself in Zacchaeus’ story? Do you need a heart change so that your generosity is a reality and not just something you talk about?

Upward: Who God is; What God has done, is doing, will do

Inward: Who you are; How you live

Outward: Intercession for others

Today’s Prayer:
“Father, I know I make too many promises without keeping them. I want to be someone who is generous with my actions, not just my words. Give me the grace I need to repent of merely talking about generosity and not actually practicing it with my hand and feet. I am so thankful you didn’t just talk about being generous with me. Your hands and feet were nailed to a cross to show your generous love toward me. Help us as a church not to stop at talking, singing, and praying about being generous. Help us to be a generous people who show people how much they are loved.”
