Wisdom for Planning and Stewardship
“The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down.” Proverbs 21:20 (NIV).
In ancient times, choice food and olive oil were essential for daily life and symbolized wealth and well-being. The wise person is depicted as someone who conservatively stores these goods, ensuring they have enough for the future. This reflects a mindset of careful planning and stewardship.
In contrast, the fool is someone who consumes resources immediately and without thought for tomorrow. The fool’s actions are impulsive and short-sighted, leading to potential hardship when resources run out.
The wisdom of this proverb is both an encouragement and a call to be prudent with all that God has entrusted to us, whether it be material possessions, time, or spiritual truth. It teaches us to be diligent and intentional in how we manage the treasures that ultimately come from Him.
