Day 6: God’s Presence that Redirects

READ

REFLECT

Paul was an up-and-coming leader in Judaism. His zeal to honor and please God coupled with his intelligence was unrivaled among his peers. However, his zeal caused him to miss out on what God was actually doing. God was doing a new thing and Paul was missing it. He was blind to what God was doing. God had a plan for Paul but Paul first needed to have his eyes opened. So God blinded Paul in order to make him see again. When Jesus encountered Paul on his way to Damascus, His presence redirected Paul and revealed to him he was heading the wrong way.

There are moments in our lives when God shows us and redirects us. We may think everything is fine and we are obeying God. However, God reveals He is doing something new and reveals Himself to show us this new direction. Our job is to obey Him and discontinue traveling in the old direction. If God is doing a new thing, why should we settle for the old?

RESPOND

Spend time in prayer, following the Upward, Inward, Outward, Upward format.

Upward: Who God is; What God has done, is doing, will do

Inward: Who you are; How you live

Outward: Intercession for others

Today’s Prayer:

Father, thank you for directing me toward the road you want me to travel. I confess I am often obsessed with what I want to do and where I want to go. Please show me if I’m heading in the right direction. Give me the grace and strength I need to obey you when you reveal what you want you me to do. Thank you for your presence that redirects me. Thank you for the certainty your presence provides.

Upward: Thanksgiving and Worship
