Now What: Part 1
March 30 & 31 2019
Brent Allen
Icebreaker Question: What does it mean to “follow” someone or something on social media? Besides social media platforms, what are some other things that people might “follow?”
- What challenged you, confused you, or changed you during the weekend’s message?
- Brent talked about the fact that following Jesus Christ should not be about what we “do,” but instead focus on what we are “to be.” In your own words, explain what this means and why it is an important distinction.
- Read Matthew 10:37 – 42 (also Matthew 22:37 and Proverbs 8:17). Brent identified that as a follower of Christ we must make loving Jesus and be committed to Him fully, our top priorities.
How do you know when someone is truly committed to something or someone?
What does it look like to when we make something or someone a “priority” in our life?
What can we do (or what are you doing presently) to foster your love for Jesus?
- Read John 8:31 – 32 (also Psalm 119:47-48). What are the benefits to being “devoted” to God’s Word? How is this related to loving Jesus.
How can we increase our desire for and devotion to God’s Word?
Life at Home Question: Brent ended by talking about the need to “give up” ourselves as the authority in our lives. Consider this week what it means to give God the authority and control of your life. Why is this so challenging?
List something that God might be calling you to “give up, surrender, or deny”? Explain why. (consider attitudes, actions, places, people, habits, things…_)
