21 Days of Prayer & Fasting – Day 21

Day 21: More Than We Can Ask or Imagine

We live in a world that values what can be measured- such as wealth, time, and achievements. As a result, our prayers often reflect what seems possible, as we calculate outcomes or weigh resources within the limits of what we can see. But God’s Word reminds us that His power is not confined by our measurements and He doesn’t measure the way we do. He is able to do immeasurably more—beyond what we ask, and even beyond what we can dream and imagine.

This truth is not distant—it is personal. Paul reminds us that God’s power is at work within us. We may feel limited by what we can see, yet the Holy Spirit, the same power that raised Christ, is working in and through us (Acts 1:8). Our weakness does not hinder Him; in fact, it reveals His strength. It is amazing to consider that our boldest prayers are only a mere glimpse of what He can do.

In one particularly trying season for our family, we were faced with a situation that seemed impossible. Sally was 8 months pregnant and needed a new job. With low expectations (who would be willing to hire a very pregnant woman?!), we prayed. God not only provided a job, but it was better than what we asked for! Two weeks after she started her new job, our daughter was born. This job was just what our family needed in this season, and we marveled at how God did not limit his goodness to the small prayers we prayed.

So let us pray bigger. Let us trust His goodness enough to bring Him impossible requests, knowing He delights to answer in ways that magnify His glory. May our prayers rise not from what we can measure, but from faith and trust in the limitless God who hears us and loves us.

Prayer

God, we believe you when you say you can do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine. Forgive us for the times we pray small prayers because our faith is small, and instead let our hearts be reminded of your great faithfulness to us. You have never failed us or left us, just as your word promises. May we ask for great things in your name, with a faith that can move mountains, and to You be the glory, God, throughout all generations, for ever and ever, amen!

Fort Wayne natives, Doug and Sally Stitzer have been married since 2004 and have called Pathway home for about 10 years. Together with their two daughters and spunky goldendoodle, they love filling their house with laughter, music, and great food. When they aren't passing down their diverse taste in music to their girls, you can usually find Doug and Sally teaching their kids advanced euchre strategy and other important life skills.
