Day 19: Enter His Gates with Thanks
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. –Psalm 100:4-5
Thankfulness is Worship
Thankfulness to God honors and acknowledges Him as the Giver of every good and perfect gift.
A few years ago, I was feeling pretty low. During my reading, I stumbled upon an article about being thankful and the associated benefits. Here are just a few of the benefits: increased happiness, reduced stress, enhanced self-esteem, better sleep, stronger relationships, and improved brain function. So, I thought to myself, “Why not give it a try?” I looked up and thanked God for the roof over my head. I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and thanked God for water on demand, especially hot water. Then, I went to my closet and looked at all the different clothes that God has blessed me with and thanked God. Finally, I walked to our kitchen and opened our pantry to see all kinds of food, and I thanked God. Just the simple act of being thankful lifted my spirits.
Being thankful does not come naturally to me, but I have learned to practice the habitude of gratitude. When I wake up, I think of three things to be thankful for. Before I go to bed, I think of three things to be thankful for. The old saying is true. “If you will pause to think, you will find reason to thank.” Give it a try!
Prayer
Lord, you have been so, so, generous to me. Help me to take time every day to thank you for all of your blessings that are too numerous to count. And to daily be thankful for your generosity of sending your One and Only Son as a sacrifice for me so that I can have an everlasting relationship with you.
