21 Days of Prayer & Fasting – Day 17

Day 17: Every Good Gift

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. – James 1:17

Two years ago, my heart was troubled over how I was managing our family finances. From a world standard I was saving and investing regularly, I had paid off consumer debt and I gave consistently to the church and other non-profit organizations. I began studying to become a Certified Kingdom Advisor® so that I could make available to client’s biblical advice and faith-based investments. However, something was off.

As I studied the scriptures, I recognized I was not grateful. You see, God had worked to create the heavens, the earth as well as man and woman. Six times He saw that it was good. Before He rested from His work, He said “it was very good.”

Today’s verse reminds us that all good things in our lives originate from God. Whether it is the joy of a beautiful sunrise, the talents we use daily, our finances or a moment of peace amid chaos, these blessings are gifts from our Heavenly Father. Sometimes, we get so caught up in our routines, challenges, or pursuits that we forget to acknowledge the source of these blessings. Taking time to recognize God as the giver of every good gift helps us develop gratitude.

It turns our focus away from ourselves and outward to His generosity and love. When we intentionally count our blessings and thank God for each one, our hearts become more open to His presence. Gratitude shifts our perspective, filling us with contentment and joy, no matter the circumstances. Remember, nothing good happens by chance or solely through our efforts. It is God's goodness and grace that produce the blessings we enjoy.

I am taking time today to count God’s generosity and blessings today. Will you join me? As you go through your day, pause and thank God for His abundant gifts—the big and small. Ask God to give you the heart of thankfulness and generosity. In doing so, you’ll deepen your relationship with Him and grow in recognizing His ongoing goodness around you.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for every good gift You have poured into my life. I praise you for proving for me. I recognize that all blessings—my talents, peace, joy, and provision— come from You. My Father, please forgive me of my sin. Help me turn away from the selfishness in my life. Help me to see Your hand in everything and to cultivate gratitude daily. Open my eyes to the ways You bless me and deepen my trust in Your goodness. May my heart always be thankful and my life a reflection of Your blessings. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
