Day 16: God Gave His Son
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? –Romans 8:32
God’s Ultimate Gift
God held nothing back – not even His Son. Challenged to search myself for what I may be holding back from Him, I realize that despite His goodness and repetitive faithfulness, my biggest struggle has always been control. For decades, I have made the joke that the title Controller has been on several of my business cards, so I am just right where I should be. However, past the jokes and deeper into the heart of it, the heavier word is fear. I hide my fear with control. In a controlled environment, I can count the cost and brace for impact. I have to be honest before Him in the secret place where no one else can enter, that I am terrified of the free fall into His plan sometimes. I know He can say no. I know His greater plan won’t always align with preserving those I love, just the way that I would, given my own plan. Romans 8:31 says, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Even more, what can be against us? While I might have to keep surrendering this fear until I die, I also remember His greater sacrifice and surrender that gave us the generous filling of the Holy Spirit as we wait in the “now” phase of eternity to be united with Him in heaven soon.
As you reflect on the cross, what can you PRAISE Him for? What are you holding back from Him that you need to REPENT of? ASK Him to show you, if you are not sure. Then YIELD to Him and release it to walk in greater freedom. If you have been walking in the unknown with fear as your companion or are resisting a forced free fall into His arms, I would encourage you to listen to the song ‘Flowers’, by Samantha Ebert.
Prayer
With grateful hearts, we thank You that the Holy Spirit prays through us and aligns our will with Yours and that we are alive unto You through Christ Jesus, our Lord (Romans 6:11). You are a good God, and your plan is always the right plan. We have a rich reward with You in heaven.
