21 Days of Prayer & Fasting – Day 15

Day 15: Abounding in Grace

And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. –2 Corinthians 9:8

God Provides Abundantly

I received an email that my kindergartener’s lunch account was low with greater frequency last school year than that of her older brother. When I asked my daughter if she was getting extra food, she said she liked to visit the snack table to share with her friends. With the true faith of a child, she knew she could be generous because her lunch account would never run out!

What kind of giver are we to be? What’s your motivation for giving? In the beginning verses of 2 Corinthians chapter 9, Paul tells the believers they can make the choice in their heart to either give “sparingly” or give “generously”. The motivation to give can either be done “cheerfully” or “reluctantly or under compulsion.”

Being a cheerful giver sounds nice, but where does it fit in with our reality? Our financial situation? Our hardships? While our present situation can sometimes feel bleak and very much in-your-face, the beauty of scripture is its design to pull us into the mind of God who isn’t limited by time or resources or the ability to see the bigger eternal picture. His word says He is able to bless us abundantly! What is the scope of this abundance? It says in all things! And when can He do this? At all times!  We can delight in giving generously to others because of God’s trustworthiness and His promise to make us abound in every good work.

Praise God that he enriches us in every good way to be generous. He is worthy of glory and deserves all thanksgiving!

Prayer

God, thank you for your generosity towards us that we might delight in sowing generously towards others. We trust you to meet our needs. You are a good father able to bless us abundantly in all things and in all times. We pray that as we love others through giving of our resources, that you would guide our hearts and that you would receive the glory.
