21 Days of Prayer & Fasting – Day 10

Day 10: Be Patient With One Another

with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love… – Ephesians 4:2 (NKJV)

Unity Through Humility

My prayer is that we, as mankind, learn to extend to one another what we all desire for ourselves—grace.

Grace affords people the opportunity to make mistakes and learn from them. Grace recognizes that none of us has everything figured out and that all of us are still growing. When we extend grace to one another, we create room for patience, forgiveness, understanding, and unity.

Paul teaches us in Ephesians 4:2 that we are to walk with humility, gentleness, patience, and love. Unity does not mean that we will always agree. It does not mean that people will never disappoint us, offend us, or make mistakes. Unity means that even when those moments come, we choose not to allow them to destroy our love for one another.

We receive grace from our Heavenly Father every day. God continually gives us opportunities to grow, change, repent, and become better. If our Heavenly Father extends that kind of grace toward us, surely we can extend grace toward one another.

Sometimes we want people to be patient with our weaknesses while becoming frustrated with theirs. We want understanding when we make a mistake but can quickly judge someone else when they make one. Humility reminds us that we all need grace.
The grace I desire for myself should be the grace I am willing to extend to someone else.

Patience is a fruit of humility. Patience is the willingness to extend grace instead of judgment. In a world of quick tempers, quick responses, and people who are easily offended, patience becomes a powerful witness of the love of Christ. Being patient does not mean ignoring wrong behavior or pretending that something did not hurt. It means refusing to allow frustration, anger, or offense to control how we treat another person.

Sometimes patience requires us to remember how patient God has been with us.

Today, invite God to soften your heart toward someone you find difficult. Before judging them, remember that they may be growing through something you cannot see. Before responding in anger, remember the grace God has extended toward you. Unity grows when humility replaces pride, patience replaces frustration, and grace replaces judgment.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the grace You extend toward us every day. Teach us to give to others the same patience, mercy, and grace that we desire for ourselves. Help us to walk in humility, gentleness, and love. When we are frustrated with others, remind us of how patient You have been with us. Soften our hearts toward those we find difficult and help us become instruments of unity rather than division. May our patience with one another be a witness of Your love and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Today’s Challenge: Give someone the grace today that you would want them to give you.
