21 Days of Prayer & Fasting – Day 9

Day 9: Bear One Another’s Burdens

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. –Galatians 6:2

In March of 2025, we welcomed our sweet boy into this world. He was in my arms for moments before being rushed to the NICU. Over the next month, he would spend a total of twenty-two days in the hospital. In April, he underwent open-heart surgery to fix the numerous things wrong with his heart.

Though this was the scariest and most challenging time in my life, I can look back and realize how blessed we were. We had so many friends, family, and coworkers who helped carry the burden. Family watched our other children so we could be with our son, friends sent meals and gifts, and coworkers donated sick time so we could remain together, focused on our son’s recovery. Countless people prayed every day for our son’s recovery.

In Galatians 6:2, Paul calls believers to “carry each other’s burdens.” This isn’t just a suggestion; it is a reflection of Christ’s heart. Jesus bore the ultimate burden on the cross. Now, we are to mirror His love by walking alongside others.

Carrying another’s burden doesn’t mean we are solving their problems. Sometimes it means praying for them, offering a shoulder to cry on, meeting a tangible need, or simply being present. Who needs your help today? A simple presence can reveal the heart of God.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for being with us every moment of every day. Thank you for the people you have put in our lives to lift us up, and the people you are calling us to lift up. Please open our eyes to the needs around us. Give us a heart ready to serve, comfort, and love others as You love us. Amen.
