Day 5: Every Nation & Tongue
After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, people, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!" –Revelation 7:9-10
A Vision of Heaven
In my country, Tanzania, we have over 120 ethnic groups that make our country to be unique. I know there some other African countries that have the same. Imagine standing before the Lord, the King of Kings, with people from different backgrounds! We can’t wait for that day! Here are a few things to reflect on from this passage:
2. Clothed with white robes
3. Palm branches
This use of palm branches was part of the celebration and worship, symbolizing joy and thanksgiving. It is God’s will that we will be filled with joy and give him thanks for all that He has done in our lives.
As we continue to pray let us remind ourselves that we are loved by God, known and protected. For me, working in Compassion International, it is a gift to see life transformation from individuals to entire communities—spiritually, physically, cognitively, and socially. Working with churches all over the world, I have discovered the church is the backbone because we are church drive. So, our prayer today is for diversity and unity in the church.
Prayer
Our Heavenly Father, we just want to thank you for the great opportunity you have given us to reflect on your word. Thank you because you know our lives, the way we live and our names. Thank you because you are going to help us to be able to live together in unity and harmony in your church. Thank you, Jesus, because you are going to help us to know more of you and to dwell in your presence always as we anticipate that the biggest day to com, when all the nations and tribes and people will gather together and lift up your holy name. Thank you because you are going to be with us for the rest of the days, in the mighty name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

- Great multitude – all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues
This verse represents inclusiveness and diversity. God gets the glory when he sees all the people stay together and worship him.
And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.” –Revelation 5:9
We are God’s products because he purchased us through His blood shed on the cross.
2. Clothed with white robes
In the Bible, white robes symbolize purity, righteousness, and victory. They represent a transformed state of believers, cleansed from sin through faith and given a righteous standing before God. In Matthew 17:1-2, Jesus appeared to Peter, James, and John and he transfigured himself; his clothes were white as light. When we surrender ourselves to Christ, transfiguration takes place and that’s why the Bible says we are a new creation. Above all, we are the children of God. It feels really good when we are called children of God.
3. Palm branches
On the first day you are to take the branches of majestic trees—palm branches, boughs of leafy trees, and willows of the brook—and rejoice before the LORD your God for seven days." –Leviticus 23:40
This use of palm branches was part of the celebration and worship, symbolizing joy and thanksgiving. It is God’s will that we will be filled with joy and give him thanks for all that He has done in our lives.
