Day 3: The Great Commission
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age." –Matthew 28:18-20
Jesus Has Risen!
With His parting words, Jesus says, "Go!" Go to everyone, all nations, and show them how to be His followers. Show them that there is purpose, there is hope.
This was not a goodbye speech, but a battle cry—a wake-up call. His disciples, who had been sidelined, hiding, and afraid, were now charged with going and continuing what Jesus started. Not by themselves, but with the promise that no matter where they went, He was with them. He had given them His authority to go!
Jesus’ words on that day ring true for us today as well. No matter if you have been sidelined in doubt, needing an extra burst of faith, Jesus’ words to us are: By my authority, go—show a lost world what purpose looks like. Show those hurting that the Creator of heaven and earth loved them enough to send someone to help. Know that whether you walk across the street to your neighbor or fly to the ends of the earth, Jesus is with you—always!
Today, take a minute and ask God this simple question: Who do you want me to go to? Where can you use my talents and treasures to show people your goodness and the plan you have for them?
Prayer
Jesus, today I am yours! I surrender all I have to you. Please show me how I can go and make disciples. Please give me the courage to step out in faith knowing that you are always with me. Amen.
