True Vine Tuesday: More Than A Garage Sale

True Vine—the adoption, foster care, family preservation ministry of Pathway—is predominantly funded by a giant Garage Sale that happens once each year. Here are a few fun facts from the sale that just happened in May of 2026.

  • The average purchase this year was around $33.
  • The Garage Sale raised a total of $73,610.
  • Over 2000 people shopped the sale.
  • Approximately 350 volunteers gave three or more hours of their time to help with the sale.

You see, we believe EVERYONE can do something to help care for the vulnerable kids in our community and all around the world.

And, EVERYONE doing something can often look very different. Sometimes, it looks like adopting one or more children. Sometimes, it looks like fostering children. Sometimes, it looks like serving with a Care Community. Taking a meal to a family. Driving kids to appointments. Mowing a family's lawn. Sometimes, it looks like meeting a CarePortal need. Taking diapers, formula, or a bed to a family. Sometimes, it looks like loving your neighbor. Praying. Volunteering three hours of your time at a church garage sale. Purchasing $30 of items from that garage sale. Mentoring a youth in foster care. Volunteering as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate). Sometimes, it looks like folding clothes, listening without judgment, sending an encouraging note. Donating unwanted items to a church garage sale. Hosting a child with New Mercies. Using the time, talent, treasure, God has entrusted to you to benefit children and families.

Why? Because, we also know God is a God who does BIG things with our little things. He turns old, unwanted items into $73,610.

God uses all of this and more. We serve a God who takes two loaves and five fish and feeds thousands. We are loved by a God who takes three semi-trailers, a church lawn full of items, and 25 large item pickups and turns it into $73,610.

A God who takes our little and turns it into something BIG. But, my favorite part is that He doesn’t stop there. He uses that money to care for children and families here, near, and far.

You see, those funds are also multiplied. They feed lunch to the caseworkers at the Department of Child Services. They meet tangible needs of families so kids do not enter foster care due to poverty. They provide mom retreats and educational materials for parents caring for kids impacted by trauma. They launch Care Communities. Pay to help families receive help from qualified professionals. They fund adoptions. They fund photoshoot days that give kids in foster care who are looking for families the opportunity to tell who they are. To be more than a case file. To be more than a kid in foster care. They service a well in El Salvador so kids in the children’s home have clean water. They help fund the Cooper House, a safe place for biological parents to have visits with their kids who are in foster care.

The ripple effects from one Garage Sale go on and on. Because our God is a God who does more than we can ask or imagine. He is truly OUR Shepherd. My Shepherd, your Shepherd, the Shepherd of all of the kids who are hurting, neglected, hopeless, in need of a family. He is the God who sets the lonely in families. He is the God that calls each of us who love Him to be His hands and feet, caring for kids. Doing what you can. Believing He will multiply it. Because EVERYONE really can do SOMETHING. And ALL of those “somethings” matter. They create ripples in the lives of kids and families here, near, and far.

So THANK YOU to each one of you who have done SOMETHING. It is more valuable than you may ever know.
